Introduction
Ring & Ride is an affordable, door-to-door, volunteer car service, for people in Ledbury and surrounding parishes who have difficulty getting around. The service has over 450 members and makes over 3,500 journeys per year.
Eligibility
You can join the Ring & Ride service if you do not have access to a car and:
- you have mobility problems that mean you are unable to use public transport
or - where you live is not served by public transport
Ring & Ride drivers are tolerant, helpful and kindly, and superb time keepers. It is a joy to be a passenger."
How it works
Once you have joined the Ring & Ride scheme all you need to do is phone the Ring & Ride Desk on 01531 635503 to book a ride, giving us at least two working days notice of your journey. The operator will take the details of your trip and log these in to our computer system. The team will then find you a driver for your trip.
On the day of your trip the volunteer driver will collect you in good time to get you to your appointment. Our drivers are normally able to wait for up to one and a half hours while you complete your appointment.
If you have a carer that you would like to travel with you please mention this when booking your ride, they will be able to travel with you at no extra charge.

What sort of trips?
Members can use the Ring & Ride service for a wide range of journeys including:
- Hospital, doctors and other medical appointments.
- Shopping, e.g. trips to the supermarket.
- Getting to railway and bus stations.
- Visiting friends and family.
Wheelchairs
Using our specialist vehicle, we are able to offer the Ring & Ride service to wheelchair users. However, the wheelchair must be suitable for use in a car - please contact us for more details.
How much does it cost
To join the scheme there is annual membership charge of £15.00 (£5.00 if you are in receipt of means tested benefits). We then charge a fee per trip based on the mileage . For example, a short trip is £5.50 and a return trip from Ledbury to Hereford hospital is £22.00. You can download our full farecard by clicking on the link on the right. For payment, we operate a cashless system - we will set up an account for you and any trips you take are then invoiced on a monthly basis.

Update June 2024 Due a significant increase in demand and a shortage of volunteer drivers, we have had to temporarily close the Ring & Ride scheme to new members. We hope to re-open the scheme in two to three months. Please contact us if you would like to go on the wait list. |

Your service in every way is first class. Ledbury is very lucky"
We used Community Action Ring and Ride for the first time today. We just wanted to say thank you for such a superb service. We were collected by Steve who was such a pleasure to travel with. Your vehicle was absolutely perfect for my Mother who needs to be moved by hoist and uses a wheelchair. It was the first time we have been outside of Colwall since Mum had a stroke, over 6 months ago. Thank you so much."
